The Brunswick/Mainland water system has lost pressure in the area serving F and G Streets between Norwich Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Brunswick on Thursday, August 3, 2017 due to a water main break caused by a private contractor digging in the area.
This loss of pressure in the distribution system may cause back-pressure, back-siphonage, or a net movement of water from outside the pipe to the inside through cracks, breaks, or joints in the distribution system that are common in all water systems. Such a system failure carries with it a potential that bacterial contamination or other disease-causing organisms could enter the water distribution system. These conditions may pose an imminent and substantial health endangerment to persons served by the water system.
This precautionary boil water advisory is being published as a warning to those that live in, work in, or travel through the affected area. During the period of the loss of pressure, water will also not be available for fire suppression use. The map below indicates the limit to which this precautionary boil water advisory applies:
What should I do?
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a rolling boil for at least (3) three minutes, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. ALL STORED WATER, DRINK OR ICE MADE RECENTLY FROM THIS SUPPLY SHALL BE DISCARDED.
Bathing, showering and toilet flushing may be performed using water from the tap without boiling it first.
Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites which can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems.
The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.
What is being done?
As soon as pressure can be restored to the distribution system, our water lab personnel will take water samples that will be fully evaluated over the next twenty-four to forty-eight hour period following the repair of the main. Once we have determined that there is no longer a threat of harmful bacteria in the water, we will inform you that you are no longer required to boil your water by posting an update here on our website: http://www.bgjwsc.org.
Effective immediately, as of 7:51 AM on Thursday, August 3, 2017, all required microbiological testing of water samples from the area affected by the boil water advisory issued for Mariners Landing on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 has passed. Results have been verified by our state-licensed technician within a certified laboratory environment.
This notification is an ALL-CLEAR and water used for drinking will no longer need to be boiled.
Though the water from this system can now be considered to meet safe drinking water standards, please discard any ice made within the last 48 hours.
Effective immediately, as of 2:09 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, all required microbiological testing of water samples from the area affected by the boil water advisory issued for sections of Sea Palms West on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 has passed. Results have been verified by our state-licensed technician within a certified laboratory environment.

The St. Simons Island water system has lost pressure in the area serving Mariners Landing on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 due to a main break caused by a private contractor digging in the area.
BGJWSC crew members are onsite now working to restore service.

The St. Simons Island water system has lost pressure in the area serving portions of Sea Palms West on St. Simons Island on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 due to a main break caused by a private contractor digging in the area.
The affected area includes Sea Palms West Drive north of Davis Cup and south of Grand View. Wimbledon Drive, Davis Cup Court and Grand View Drive are unaffected by this precautionary boil water advisory as minimum safe pressure was maintained during our response and those areas are now supplied by water from a different section of the distribution system.
BGJWSC crew members are onsite now working to restore service.

The details below outline the project referred to as PS4048, which is located in the area between the corner of Norwich Street and Fifth Street to the corner of Townsend Street and Stonewall Street. This wastewater force main basin serves over 3,000 customers. This force main improvement project is required in order to continue serving the existing customer base and also prepare the way for future growth.
During construction, 3,100 linear feet of 24-inch force main will be installed to increase the efficiency of existing piping that carries wastewater from the north end of our present mainland Brunswick sewer system. This system runs from as far northeast as Chanslor Road to Odyssey Lake Apartments on Highway 99, down Golden Isles Parkway, across to Shell Point Subdivision on Harry Driggers Blvd, down Darien Highway, following over to the project area off of Townsend Street, bringing the wastewater through 23 pumping stations before reaching its final destination at the Academy Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility on Newcastle Street.
The construction equipment and supplies will be staged at Paulk Park off of Wylly Ave on August 1, 2017 and will be completed by December. During this time, traffic will be rerouted due to excavation on Fifth Street east of Norwich Street towards Lee Street and up to Branham Ave. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. will be blocked at Fifth Street for a short period of time. Once construction commences, routine updates to this briefing will be posted every two weeks following a planning meeting with BGJWSC, City of Brunswick, Glynn County and contract construction personnel. Progress will be reported in advance to the next phase of construction.
The BGJWSC will be hosting an informational meeting in the Brunswick High Auditorium on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5:30-7:00PM. During this time, members of BGJWSC staff, elected officials and staff from the construction team at TB Landmark Construction will be present to answer your questions related to this project.
Any questions regarding this meeting or the project can be directed to the JWSC project manager, Senior Engineer Todd Kline at 912-261-7122 or tkline@bgjwsc.org.
